Outdoor Activities

On windy days, take plastic shopping bags, string and crepe paper outside.

Go for a walk on a rainy day. Take advantage of a gentle rain to explore water flow, puddles and the sound of rain. Talk about how the rain changes the way things like soil and plants look and feel. Ask if the air smells different too. After taking a walk in the rain has the children draw their experiences. Ask the children to tell you about their pictures and write their stories on separate pieces of paper.

Cloud Parade
Pack a picnic lunch and visit a local park.  Spend the afternoon relaxing on a blanket watching
the clouds as they change into animals and other shapes.  Bring along a pad of paper, crayons, glue and a bag of cottonballs.  Have children draw the shapes they see, then glue cotton balls onto the drawing to look like the clouds.

Take a Sunny Day Walk to a Beach
Make plans to visit a beach and take along pail, shovels and a bag to collect "treasures".
Be sure to bring along sunscreen.
