Valentine
Treat from Teacher
Make a heart for each child cut from a full
sheet of red construction paper. On the heart place this message:
Here's a treat for you!
I'm glad you're in my class this year!
You make my day each day you are here!
Love, ____________
Then tape a heart-shaped lollipop on the heart
and near the lollipop write
"You are a Sweetie!"

Shoeboxes (one per child)

decorations for the outside of shoe box
(glitter, stickers, pompoms,jewels,beads,lace,etc)
Directions: Glue red construction paper on the shoeboxes ahead of time.
Have the children decorate their shoebox any way they want to with the decorations that
are available. Put the valentines they receive in the mailboxes.Another good idea:
Put treats in as well.

Use cinnamon red hot candies to spell out their
spelling words at an activity center.

A special gift children can make for a special
someone that they love. red yarn (32
" long),red/white colored paper, small
picture of student,scissors,glue,crayons
Cut out 2 red and 2 white hearts. Glue picture of student onto 1 white heart. Write
"I love you" on the other white heart. Color 2 red hearts to look like
"love bugs". Spread glue onto the back of 1 red and white heart. Sandwich one
end of red yarn between the two hearts. repeat this with the other two hearts on the other
end of yarn. Let dry.

Directions: Have the children cut out hearts. They can decorate them as they
wish.

Make 2 huge hearts and let the children
decorate them as desired. Staple edges
together, leaving an opening, and stuff with scrap paper or newspaper. Staple edge completely. Streamers (pink, red, and
white) can be attached to the bottom, a
string or ribbon on top, and hang them up.

"Thumb-body"
Loves You
Cut various shaped hearts from white and pink
construction paper. Using red paint
decorate the hearts with children's thumbprints. Set hearts aside to dry. On a
4 ½ by 8-½ inch paper write out "Thumb-body Loves You". Tape the paper
to an empty 12-oz. Juice can. Glue a painted heart to the can, then glue the
remaining hearts to Popsicle sticks. Press a small amount of clay into the bottom of
the can. Then tuck a small amount of red tissue into the can, and then insert the
sticks through the paper and into the clay.

Day Card
Prepare a big red heart with a smaller heart in
the middle of it with "I Love
You" written on the smaller heart. Have children sit in a chair and hold the heart in
front of them. Take an individual close-up picture of each child. Then have the
children make the following card. Materials:
Red construction paper White construction paper or white doily Glue Poem (from below) Directions:
Fold red construction paper in half. Cut
out a white heart or use a white doily and glue on the front of the card. Then glue the following poem on the front of the
card.
Someone loves you Do you know who?
Take a look inside and see The one who loves you is me!
Inside the card glue the picture of the child
that you took with the heart.
Love Is...
Ask children what they think love is.
Record each of their responses on a white heart shaped piece of paper, with the caption
"Love Is
" above it. Let the children mount the white hearts on red
construction paper. Doilies and glitter can be used to decorate the "Love
Is" hearts even more.

Dolls
Valentine dolls can be made with a small heart
for the head glued onto a tongue
depressor or Popsicle stick for the body. A small lace doily can be used for a dress. Have the children add facial
features with a crayon or marker.

Directions: Cut out hearts (either red or pink) for the flower. Cut out two
smaller green hearts for the
leaves. Glue the flower to the top of the tongue depressor and the leaves to the middle of the tongue
depressor. Draw a face on the flower
and give as a gift to your favorite valentine! You can also collect all the hearts and place them in a vase for a centerpiece
for a Valentine's Day party. When the
party is over, the children may take their heart flowers home.

Bracelet
Make the bracelet from a strip of construction
paper. Glue small hearts on the paper or
use cute valentine stickers. Staple or
glue the strip to fit over the child's wrist.

Fold-Overs
For each child cut various sizes of heart
shapes out of white construction paper and fold them in half. Let the children lay their
hearts out flat and place drops of red,pink, and lavender tempura paint on one side. Have
them fold their hearts and rub the tops with their hands. Then let them open their heart
shapes to see the beautiful designs they have created. Don't forget tho display the works
of art!

Hearts- Game
Give each pair of players one sheet of red
construction paper and tell them to keep one hand behind their backs throughout the game.
At the signal, they must tear a heart shape from the paper. Of course, the catch is that
they can only use one hand each, so they have to work together. One must use the right
hand and the other the left. Give little prizes for the smallest, largest best-looking
most unusual hearts.(or any other type of heart you can think of)

minute- Game
Give each child a sheet of blank paper and a
red crayon. At a signal, everyone must outline hearts on their paper for one minute. When
the time is up, the one with the most hearts drawn is the winner.

Give each child a large heart cut from glossy
paper and let them use a heart shaped
sponge to paint heart prints on the paper.

Cut a large red heart shape from
posterboard. Punch holes around the perimeter using a hole punch. Let children lace yarn through
holes.

Fish
Cut out 1 large heart and 2 smaller ones
At the tip of the large heart, glue the small
heart for the fish tail. The other small one will be the fin. Glue this one inside the
large heart. Add eyes and mouth to finish the fish.

Hearts
Make several pairs of matching hearts. Cut in
zigzag or any shape line. Have children find the matching pairs. Can also do this with a
capital letter on one half and a lowercase letter on the other half.

Make a headband out of heavy paper for each
child. Trace 2 heart cookie cutters
onto pink or red construction paper for each child and let the children color and cut them out. Tape them to
pipe cleaners to make antennae and
attach to headband.

Rubbings
Cut out different sizes of hearts from
sandpaper. Tape hearts to table and lay a sheet of white typing paper over them. Use side of crayon
to lightly rub over hearts, making a
pattern on paper.

Trace and cut out heart from colored
paper. Use a hole pinch and make 2 hole
in center of heart, not side by side, but one under the other, about an inch or two apart. Thread a drinking straw into
one hole and back out the other.

Card
Cut a red satin heart (maybe you have some left
over ribbon from Christmas) and apply glue to edges. Press onto a white, card and before
gluing down insert perfumed cotton ball in the heart.

Draw a large heart onto double thickness of
newspaper. Cut out and staple all
around, leaving a small opening. Let kids decorate their hearts with fingerpaint. After drying, stuff with crumpled
newspaper. Staple opening shut. Cut long pieces of pink or red crepe paper
streamers and, making a tail, staple to bottom point of heart.
