Mrs. Bee says...

S is for SUNSHINE to brighten the spring, Warming the water, the earth, everything!
P is for POSIES with colors so bright- Reds, yellows, purples, Oh! what a sight!
R is for RAINDROPS that splash all about, Wetting the earth so that new life can sprout.
I is for INSECTS that flit throught the air, And the grasshoppers, beetles, and ants everywhere.
N is for NOISES I hear when I wake, The chirping of birds and the laughs children make.
G is for GROWTH that I see around me. The plants and the animals- SPRING is lovely! unknown

Spring is the time of the year when the whole
world awakens from a long sleep. Surprise
the children with these fun spring activities!
(Some of these activities can be
printed off, colored, mounted on sturdy paper and laminated.)

Plan a morning or afternoon walk to
observe and record signs of spring.

Keep a chart of the signs of spring
that the children see during the day.

Brainstorm with the children for
words that are related to spring. Classify them under such headings as: spring flowers,
spring birds, spring animals, spring insects, spring words, spring weather.

Plant seeds and watch them grow. Keep
a record of when they sprout, how they are growing, etc. Also, they can draw pictures of
the plants. Good seeds are radish, lettuce, and marigolds.

Display books about
spring,birds,flowers,insects,frogs ,etc in the class.

Display spring pictures. Have the
children write captions for the pictures.

Read stories and poems about spring.

Spring Weather Watch
(bulletin board idea)
Items to place on the board: white
cloud, yellow sun, kite, umbrella, raindrops, snowflakes Make a big T.V. screen. Have children select the
appropriate weather-related pattern for each day. Pin the pattern inside the T.V. screen.

Suggest that this would be a good
time to do some "spring cleaning" around the classroom. Get the children involved! Clean off the
shelves, wipe over the desks, clean out the cubicles, etc. Play areas could be cleaned,
doll clothes washed and hung to dry, etc.

Place bouquets of flowers around the
classroom to give it that "spring" feeling.

Outdoor Fun
Provide the children with soft foam
balls, plastic bats, skipping ropes, perforated plastic balls, plastic hoops, skilts( wooden
blocks with long rope handles that can be used as stilts) pogo sticks, beanbags, wagons, etc.

Pin the Tail on the Bunny
(like Pin the Tail on the Donkey)

Hen and Chicks
Mother Hen (chosen child) leaves the
room, one or more children are chosen to chirp very softly until Mother Hen finds them.

Visit Places
Visit a local greenhouse to see
Easter lilies and other spring blooming plants.
Visit a loca farm to see newborn
animals, spring planting or beehives.
Visit a hatchery and obtain chicken
or duck eggs to hatch.
Visit a zoo that may have newborn
animals and/or a petting farm section.
Go to a park on a nature walk or to
an open field to fly a kite.
Visit a Feed and Seed Store.
A small shallow stream of water is a
safe place to observe water creatures like tadpoles, frogs, crayfish, and minnows.

Bring in a sound/ motion
activated dancing flowers. Put it out and put some music on and do a SPRING dance!!

Field Trip Permission Slip

"Magic Circle"
Exploring activity. Give each child
or group a meter length of string to outline a circle on the ground. Let them use a
magnifying glass to see what can be found in their area. Encourage them to look carefuly
under stones and in grass for items.

Tree for All Seasons
Obtain an attractive bare tree branch
and secure with sand or pebbles in a large coffee can. Children may glue tissue paper
blossoms on it in the spring and follow through the seasons with tree leaves in summer,
fruit, nuts, colored leaves or seed pods in autumn, and the bare branch for winter.(which
may be decorated then with Christmas decorations!)

Which Way Does the March Wind
Blow?
The wind is an ever-changing part of
nature. Construct a weather vane and chart the wind direction. Cut a 15 by 2 cm. piece of
heavy duty foil.Bend the foil in half around a 6 cm. piece of drinking straw. Press the
ends of the strip tightly together and tape them near where they wrap around the straw.
Also, tape the foil to the straw to keep the strip from sliding off. Put a nail through
the straw and push it into the centre of a rectangle cardboard base. Spread the 2 foil
ends slightly. Place outdoors to see which way the wind is blowing. Chart the results.
