The Giant Pumpkin
Early one morning when the sun burst out,
A little white seed began to sprout.
She pushed her head up through the ground,
Waved her arms and looked around.
At first she grew low, but she was vine,
So soon she began to climb and climb.
She climbed up a hill, to the very top,
And there at last she decided to stop.
From the vine popped a flower, a great big one,
As gold as the color of the setting sun.

The vine was happy, but then one day,
The beautiful flower fell away.
Then the vine grew sad, she felt real low,
Until a green ball began to grow.
It grew and it grew to a great big size,
Then it turned all orange -- a big surprise!
Way up high at the top of the hill,
The giant pumpkin sat very still.
He saw some children playing below
And wished that down the hill he could go.
He leaned to the left, and he leaned to the right.
He pushed and pushed with all his might.
He kept on leaning and pushing until
He started to roll right down the hill.
He rolled and rolled, first slow, then fast,
Until the children he reached at last.
The children took the pumpkin to the   county fair
Where he won a blue ribbon that he could wear.
They said he was bigger than all the rest,
That of all of the pumpkins, he was the best.
The pumpkin felt proud, and he wanted to grin.
(It's not every day that a ribbon you win!)
So the children carved him a smile big and wide
And gave him a candle to glow inside.
Now that pumpkin's as happy as can be,
For he's a jack-o'-lantem for all to see!
