~ To An Heirloom Teapot ~
They tell me that a hundred years ago
A great-great-grandma handled you with grace
As cordially she nodded to each guest
While cups were passed around from place to place.
Upon your face quaint maids and urchins play
On grassy terraces in dull old blue;
They beckon me to come and join their pranks
As they have done to all who handled you.
We somehow sense the chatter and the charm
Of those who circled round your generous self.
What you could tell! ---
No wonder we are proud
To give you honored place upon our shelf

Send a Cup of Friendship to your friend
There are poems for tea and coffee.
Following the directions below, cut 2 mug shapes from 7 count plastic canvas.  Stitch with any design you want to.  Join both pieces together around all sides except the top.  Stitch each top separately.  Tuck a tea bag inside or a single serving package of coffee and add one of the poems to the handle.  You could even tuck a gift certificate from a coffee shop inside.  Send this to a friend that isn't feeling well, to someone you haven't seen for a long time, or to family members far away.  It is also good for Mother's Day or Valentine's Day.

I cannot sit and chat with you,
the way I'd like to do.
So brew yourself a cup of tea,
I'll think of you, you think of me.

Ideas for a Tea party
You can do chocolate dipped spoons, melt chocolate in double boiler, whatever kind you like, dip spoons in and lay out on wax paper to set up. I have done these and given w/ a coffee mug, great turnout.I also really like the idea of the jolly ranchers, maybe I'll do those this  year, perhaps use a lemon one also, that's be nice.
Thanks Shannon
I don't know about all the stuff but have made many a candy spoon--hopefully they are the same. I just bought Jolly rancher cinamon candy and put it in a double boiler to melt down.  Line a cookie sheet with waxed paper, I filled each bowel on the spoon with the melted candy and placed on the cookie sheet so handle is resting on the edge, let them set up.  Friends and family who love hot tea really liked these with the little gift packages I gave them last year.  I wrapped them with saran wrap and tied with curly ribbon--I have little angel spoon tags I made at Christmas to attach to them, the picture of them should be on the posts in archives from December, if not I can always send them again to you.
Thanks Patti
I read that a mom had made the tea cup bird feeders for her "little" guests to place outside their bedroom window, or a nice, visible place, as a remembrance of their day.
Thanks Cece
I also think that cheap costume jewelry and / or small pairs of white gloves  would be a cute addition, or even small teddy bears w/ cute little hats
Thanks Shannon
I have a tea party with my granddaughter and a few of her friends also in the spring. I have each child bring a few items of special dress up cloths, purse, shoes, scarves, gloves, jewelry, anything they can have fun with. I have them bring the items a week before the tea party, I hang them on hangers and add a few things to the items that they have , the jewelry is displayed in a nice case I  make sure items are clean and no rips I also put a price tag on them. When they get to tea Party they get so much play money to spend and a purse, they come to the store and do their shopping. They have fun as they love to shop and
pick out their own cloths.  We then have a hat decorating contest to see who does the best job decorating their hats, the winner get a  bonus of play money to go back to shop for items she might not had the money to buy.  We also give the others a smaller bonus to shop and for doing a good job. I have all kinds of straw hats, lots of silk flowers, lace, ribbon, scarves, netting and anything that will go on a hat. After this they all go dress up with their outfits, and get their makeup done. I try and have a couple of teenagers help out in the store and doing the makeup. After that we have our tea with tiny sandwiches, and special desserts. When the mothers come to pick them up we put on a fashion show and serve the mothers tea and a light lunch. Have been doing this for a few years, as my daughter is now 32 (had to wait through 3 grandson for that granddaughter to come) and when my granddaughter came I started it with her. The things the mothers send are sent back home or are kept for the next year. During the year I pickup things at yard sales and thrift stores. So we now have a big collection, of dress up things to share. Some items are also sent to our local hospital thrift store, if we get to much. Hope this will give you and idea. It is work but the girls love it, and look for those fancy invite's I send out for the tea party/fashion show. I have little gifts I pick up during the year to handout also and use for table favors. I use card tables with fancy cloths I have. The fancy cakes are a big hit also.
Thanks Marylina
Goodie bags were....white lunch bags....folded down at the top (in on both sides first), like a T-bag....and we printed out littleT- bag tags. We stapled them to cheap kite string and to the bag....they looked JUST like big tea bags!We made tea bag dolls...so everyone got one in their goodie bag! We made candy spoons for each person too....one each: lemon, orange and cinnamon!Don't forget doilies for the plates! We also made Tiny Tea Recipe Books!

"For The Blues" Tea

A Herbal Feast by Risa Mornis
  2  parts chamomile flowers
  1 part  borage
  1 part  stinging nettle
  1 part  skullcap
  1  part  peppermint extract
  1/2  part  rosehips
Stevia (a natural plant sweetener) -- to taste
I would suggest you experiment with stevia before committing it to a recipe. It is approximatley 30 times sweeter than sugar, so a little goes a really long way. The first time I made this tea with stevia, it was absolutley undrinkable; a tiny pinch is all you need.~Julie Manchester, Woodsong Herbals

"Tea" Poems

I cannot sit and chat with you,
the way I'd  like to do.
So brew yourself a cup of tea
I'll think of you, you think of me.

I wish we could sit down together
and have a cup of tea
But since we can't
When you have this one
I hope you'll think of me.

A little cup of friendship
with a bag of tea
When you drink this
Think of love from me.

When you're feeling sad and blue
and have no clue what to do
sit down and have a cup of tea
and a hug or two or maybe three
Feel those troubles melt away
and start you on a better day.

CANDIED TEA STIRRERS
vegetable cooking spray
34 pieces fruit flavored hard candy--crushed--lemon, cinnamon etc
2 TBSP light corn syrup
heavy weight plastic spoons
Line a cookie sheet with waxed paper. Spray with cooking spray. In a small
heavy saucepan combine crushed candies and corn syrup and melt over low eat stirring frequently.
Spoon candy into bowl of each spoon. Place spoons on prepared cookie sheet
with handles on rims and spoons level. Allow to harden. Store in air tight container.

Bath Tea Bags
We're making an oversized "tea" bag filled with dried flowers, salts
and oils. Dangled in the bath, it will work just like a normal tea bag,
allowing all the fragrances to seep through the fabric. It can even be
used in the shower whilst washing your hair.
1 In a bowl, mix one cup of Epsom salts with 12 drops of rose/geranium
essential oil and 12 drops of lavender essential oil. To create a
purple colour to complement the lavender fragrance add 15 drops of
red and 10 drops of blue food colouring. Mix well.
2 Stir in half a cup of crushed/quick-cook oats, then gently stir in
one cup of dried rose petals. (Dry the rose petals by placing them
on kitchen paper and microwaving for one minute on high. After
removing from microwave, let the steam disperse and repeat until you
have about one cup of rose petals.)
3 To make the bags, measure and cut out pieces of lightweight iron-on
  interfacing, making each piece 36cm x 12cm.
4 Set the iron to cotton, no steam. Lay the piece of interfacing
shiny/glue side up and fold in half. Run the hot iron about one
centimetre in over the two open sides, creating glued-down seams.
The heat activates the glue on the interfacing. You now have a
pouch. Now fill the pouch with about half a cup of the mixture, shaking it to the bottom.
5 Next, fold in the two top corners to meet in the middle, forming a
"paper aeroplane-like" point. Iron into place. Fold over the top and
iron again to create a tea bag shape. Tie a knot at the end of the
string and attach it to the bath bag with a staple.
6 Hang your bath tea bag onto the tap whilst filling the bath, and let
it soak in the water. The essential oils, Epsom salts and oatmeal
will seep through, together with a lovely purple colouring.
Herbal teas and potpourri can also be used as alternative fillers.
Create your own aromatherapy by using different blends of essential
oils. The above recipe will make enough for about four bath tea bags.
Epsom salts, one cup
Rose petals, one cup, dried
Rose/geranium essential oil
Lavender oil (essential oils)
Oats, half a cup (crushed or quick-cook)
Mixing bowl and spoon
Kitchen plate and kitchen paper
Lightweight iron-on interfacing.
Ruler
Marker
Scissors
Household iron
Funnel, optional
String, one metre
Stapler

The first thought I had was to find a teapot pattern and cut the
shape out of sponge and sponge paint an apron and embellish the apron.
Thanks Sandy!

I LOVE tea.  I did a basket for my pal last Christmas who was also a tea lover.
The tea themed stuff I got with tea cups or teapots on them was stationery, kitchen towels,
address labels (personalized).  Then I threw in some shortbread cookies, crystal tea bag
holder, honey straws, and a jar of special tea I mixed myself.  I even threw in two tea cup
minatures from the Beauty and the Beast- Mrs. Potts and Chip (helps when you live near Disneyland).  If you want to include a fancy spoon for stirring the tea you might go to an antique store for one - they always have single spoons for sale and you could get a really fancy one.
Thanks Leslie!

Fill a basket with Gourmet coffees, coffee mugs, novels, chocolates,
decorative bookmark. I know they have coffee & tea stores where you can buy
different types of tea just by the tea bag. So put different kinds of tea
bags, I have seen a really small pitcher that they bring you in restaurants
for hot water. It was stainless steel. Maybe a antique creamer and sugar
bowl. One of those cups that has the little scoop on the side that holds
your tea bags, an antique tea pot, maybe some little cookies.

For our Christmas tea, my friend got a teapot-shaped cookie cutter & made
dough ornaments for everybody.  She put some kind of glitter or sparkly stuff
in the dough so she didn't have to paint them & just put a piece of ribbon on
the handle for a hanger.  She said they were really easy and everybody liked  them.
Thanks Lisa!

Take a matching cup and saucer glue a pretty cloth doily in the saucer
pour a candle in the cup (be sure to put in a wick) then glue the cup to
the ontop of the doily and saucer.  They wanted $24.00 at a specialty
store for this.  But I thought it was really neat.
Thanks Glitz!

Bath Tea
What You Will Need:
2 quarts water
2 cups dried thyme (you can substitute dried peppermint or rosemary)
Bring the water to a boil in a large pan.  Add the dried thyme and  bring the mixture back to a boil.  Cover the pot with a lid and remove from heat.  Steep for 15  minutes.

4 tablespoons baking soda
Essential Oil of your choice
Food Coloring
Measure the baking soda into a bowl, then add a few drops of  essential oil and a
few drops of food coloring.  Mash together with the back of a spoon until the
ingredients are completely incorporated.
Decorate tea bag envelopes to place the salts in, or place in a pretty jar.

Teapot Cake
It looks like a tea pot!
For the decorations:
1 tube (7 oz) marzipan
yellow, red, blue, and green  food coloring
2 TBSP. confectioners' sugar
FOR THE CAKE:
2 packages (16 oz. each) pound cake mix
1-1/2 cups water
4 large eggs
2 cans (16 oz each) prepared vanilla frosting
SPECIAL AIDS:
two 1-1/2 quart ovenproof bowls
1-1/2" flower- and leaf-shaped cookie cutters
toothpicks
6-inch wooden skewers
MAKING THE MARZIPAN DECORATIONS
1.  Divide marzipan in half. Tint half pale yellow.
Divide the remaining half into 4 separate pieces.  Tint each piece with a different food color( pink, green, blue, yellow)
2.  Shape the yellow marzipan into a rope and form the handle of the tea pot, lid top(the little knob at the top of the lid), and the spout; set aside.  Sprinkle a sheet of waxed paper with confectioners' sugar.  Roll out colored marzipan pieces to a 1/8" thickness.  Using 1-1/2" flower and leaf cookie cutters, cut out flowers and leaves.  Dry mazipan deocrations, uncovered, overnight.
BAKING THE CAKE
 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.  Spray two 1-1/2 quart ovenproof bowls
with vegetable cooking spray; dust lightly with flour.
2.  Using an electric mixer set on medium, in a medium bowl, combine cake mixes, water and eggs.  Pour into prepared pans; smooth tops.
3.  Bake until a toothpick comes out clean, about 55 minutes.  Transfer bowls to wire rack; cool for 10 minutes.  Turn cakes out onto racks; cool completely.  Level flat sides of cakes.  Trim about 1 inch from one round bottom for lid.
ASSEMBLING THE CAKE
1.  Spread frosting over flat top of one cake.  Top with remaining cake;frost with yellow frosting.  Place reserved cake piece on top of dome for lid and frost with yellow frosting.
2.  Use toothpicks to attach lid top (marzipan); use skewers for handle and spout.
3.  Arrange leaves and flowers on cake.  Pipe pink frosting in balls around lid and base and in flower centers The easiest way to cut this cake is to separate the layers, so it may be a good idea to use something in between the layers that can easily be frosted over.
Thanks Michelle!

I really miss your presence
I like to hear your views
I wish that we could visit
And catch up on the news.

Since we can't do that often
The one thing that I can see
Is-we can dream together
And have a cup of tea.

Another "tea" ornament"
A teapot that is about 4x6", cut from stiff felt. A ball knob on the top of the teapot,
that you punch your hole thru,
to run your cord to hang it by.  A ribbon about 1 to 1-1/2" wide, glued to the front of the teapot,
like a pocket. (glue  down only 3 sides of the ribbon).  On top of the ribbon, you glue this poem:

A little cup of friendship
With tea in a mug
It warms you up inside
Just like a personal hug
Remember as you drink
The good times and smiles.
We'll always be together
Though separated by miles.

Bath Tea
1 cup epson salt
1/2 cup dead sea salt (I use Kosher)
1/2 cup baking soda
1/2 cup cornstarch
fragrance oil (optional)
dried flowers (optional)
1/2 cup quick cook oatmeal
Combine ingredients and place 1/2 cup in a heat seal bag and tie with
a string, or you could use some tulle and tie them up with a pretty
ribbon.  You dangle these from the faucet while running the bath
water.  I don't know which ingredient makes your skin feel soooo soft
when you get out.  They look really pretty in the baskets too.

Small Gift idea:
I think the tea is a wonderful idea....you might ask people to donate their odd cups and saucers, especially any fancy ones....I have also been able to pick up very pretty ones at yard sales and thrift shops.... That would be a pretty addition to your basket. This is a little poem to go with it:

A cup full of blessings we send your way...
This special tea has come to say
that you are thought of with love and care
And kept in many daily prayer.
We pray your heart is always light,
That God is with you day and night,
That whatever you do and wherever you go
Your blessings cup will overflow.

Glazed Irish Tea Cake
3/4 cup butter- room temperature
1 cup Sugar
2 tsp pure Vanilla extract
2 lg Eggs
3 oz Cream cheese- room temperature
1 3/4 cups Cake flour
1 1/4 tsp Baking powder
1/4 tsp Salt
1 cup golden raisins
2/3 cup Buttermilk
Glaze:
1/2 cup Confectioners' sugar, sifted
2 tsp Fresh lemon juice
PREHEAT OVEN TO 325F, with rack in center of oven. Generously grease  a 9-inch (7-cup capacity) loaf pan. Dust with flour; tap pan over  sink to discard excess flour. Cut piece of parchment paper or waxed  paper to fit bottom of pan. Set aside. FOR CAKE, use mixer to cream  butter, sugar and vanilla until fluffy. Add eggs, 1 at a time,   beating each until fluffy. Add cream cheese. Mix until well combined.
Sift flour, baking powder and salt together. Put raisins in small  bowl. Add 1/4 cup of flour mixture to them and stir until well  coated. Add remaining flour to batter, alternating with buttermilk.  Mix until smooth. Use wooden spoon to stir in raisins and all of the  flour. Stir until well combined. Transfer batter to prepared pan.   Smooth surface with spatula. Bake until well-browned and toothpick  inserted into center comes out clean, about 1 hour, 25 minutes (time  will vary with individual ovens). Cake will crack on top. Let cake  rest in pan for 10 minutes. Use flexible metal spatula to separate  cake from sides of pan. Carefully remove cake from pan to cooling  rack. Spread glaze on warm cake. Let cake cool completely. Cake can  be stored 3 days at room temperature in foil. Cake can also be frozen  up to 3 months, wrapped airtight.
FOR GLAZE, combine sugar and lemon juice in small bowl. Stir until  smooth. Drizzle all over on top until soaked.
