SNOWMAN Crafts

Flowerpot Snowman
Supplies:
small flowerpot
wooden craft ball
white craft paint
craft glue
small piece of ribbing for the hat
bell
toothpick
black or orange marker
decorations such as a small broom etc.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Paint the flowerpot and the wooden ball white.
2. Turn the flowerpot over and glue the ball to the top.
3. Glue the ribbing to the ball, making the stocking cap. Tie the open end of the cap with a bell on a thread.
4. Wrap a small scrap of fabric around the snowman's neck to make a scarf, gluing it into place, and add any decorations such as a small broom etc. That's it!

Pillow Snowman
Take a white pillow, tie a scarf (hand-knitted or crocheted, or a piece of felt, or whatever you have on hand) around it about 2/3 of the way up. (makes it look like 2 rounded parts, bigger part on bottom). Then just glue on hat, eyes, nose, mouth, whatever you like or have on hand.

Recycled Bulb Snowman
One burnt out light bulb
child's red sock
small piece of string
scissors
acrylic paints: red, black and white - and a paint brush
small fabric bow
hot glue gun and glue sticks
gold cord, approximately 6" long

Instructions
Turn the bulb so that the stem is pointing up. Using acrylic paints, paint a face on the bulb. Let dry completely. If you wish, you can use purchased googly eyes and/or you can cut a mouth out of red felt and glue it on. If you want to make a carrot nose, use a piece of orange felt cut into a small triangle. Turn the child's sock inside-out. Tie the small piece of string
around the sock just under the toe. Tie tightly. Cut off most of the sock above the string. Turn the sock right-side out. Turn up the edge of the sock. You've made a toque. Position the toque over the stem of the bulb and tack it down with hot glue. Glue the bow just underneath the mouth to form a bow tie. Tie the two ends of your 6" gold cord together to form a loop. Tack the loop to the back of the bulb to form a hanger.

Snowman Litter
(hot chocolate mix) and it gets rid of the dreaded snowman poop (mini-marshmallows) !We made these as gifts 2 years ago and everyone loved them !  We made our hot cocoa mix and put it in quart or pint sized jars. We then put the mini-marshmallows in a little baggie on top of the mix.  We used Christmas fabric and cut it to fit around the lid and tied it with raffia. We attached this poem to the jar.  Makes a cute gift !

Snowman Litter
Directions for use:
Since the snowman is a "productive" critter,
It helps to have the proper litter.
Poop is a thing that should not be kept,
Nor something under the rug to be swept. (how inept!)
To dispose of the poop you need to consider
Using this high tech Snowman Litter.
But should you not use the proper mix,
You'll undoubtedly find yourself in a fix.
'Tis best done by putting this stuff in a mug (1/3 of a cup)
Be careful and don't drop poop on the rug.
Add poop to the cup, and pour in a slug
Of hot melted snowman right into that mug.
The poop disappears (oh hear the wild cheers!)
Merry Christmas to all and a Very Happy New Year!
Thanks Deb!

Here's the recipe for Snowman Soup
(place contents in a mug and wrap with red cellophane and attach poem):
1 package instant hot cocoa mix
1 candy cane (or other flavored candy stick)
2 Hershey kisses
15 (or so) mini marshmallows

or if you want to make your own:

Recipe for Snowman Soup (a.k.a. Hot Cocoa Mix)
Combine:
4 c. dry milk
1 c. unsweetened cocoa
2 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
Mix it all up and store in airtight container.
Individual Servings:
Use 1/4 cup of mix to 1 cup of boiling water.
Garnish each serving with whipped cream and/or marshmallows.
Makes 20 cups of hot chocolate.

and here's the poem that goes with it:

~ Snowman Soup ~
I heard that you've been good this year --
well, that's a first for you! (insert smiley face)
Then you might want to celebrate,
in case that rumor's true.

So here's a little Christmas gift,
to give you warmth and cheer;
For being good has its rewards,
at least that's what I hear. (insert another smiley face)

The winter weather brings a thirst
that cold drinks can't relieve,
But 'Snowman Soup' is magical...
or so snowmen believe.

The choc-o-late will make you smile;
its warmth will brace the chill.
You'll stir it with a stick or spoon,
add marshmallows to fill.

If, God forbid, the flu hits town
and you start feeling crummy
Just mix a cup, then take a sip,
soon it will warm your tummy.

Now please don't fret the calories
cause life's too short for that!
Plus all the snowmen drink it, and
Lord knows, they don't get fat!

When this is gone, just make some more ~
it's real easy to do...
Just use the recipe below
and you can make it too!
Love & Merriest Christmas,
--------
That was one of them this is the other one

Snowman soup

The Soup:
1 package hot chocolate mix
3 Hershey Kisses
15 (or so) marshmallows
1 candy cane

The Poem:
Was told you've been real good this year
Always glad to hear it
With freezing weather drawing near
You'll need to warm the spirit
So here's a little Snowman Soup
Complete with stirring stick
Add hot water, sip it slow
It's sure to do the trick!
Thanks Elsie!

Snowman poop or seeds
~Paint the body of a terra cotta paint pale blue, or any colour. A three inch planter works nicely
~Once dry, sea sponge white paint onto the blue paint. Then "rag off" with a paper towel, removing any excess white paint to give a snowy effect.
~Paint the rim of the planter with fake snow. You can use white paint but the fake snow gives it texture.
~Paint simple white snowflakes on the body of the planter and add "let it snow"
~Cut a styrofoam ball in half. Place cut side down, with the rounded part a little over the rim of the planter.
~With white crafting glue, glue miniature marshmallows (white) to the styrofoam. Cover the surface. With a paint brush, brush the marshmallows with white crafters glue ( glossy or matte) and before the glue dries, sprinkle on some pearlesque glitter.
~Then add the poem, perhaps typed on a small card and decorated.

You've been naughty
so here is the scoop
All you get for Christmas
is snowman poop!

Of course, if you don't want to offend the recipient of you gift, you
can always say they are snowman seeds.

Snowman snowman
Where could you be?
Ooopps! I forgot to plant snowman seeds!

Thanks Veronica!

Snowball Soap
Get some ivory soap and soak it in water over night, then
break it into halves. Give it to the children to mold like Playdough into a
snowball. When it dries it flakes up like a real snowball.  I put it in
baggies and added the following poem to a topper.

This Snowball soap,
has been made just for you.
To help you welcome in Winter,
And keep your hands clean too!

Snowman Repair Kit.
In a ziplock baggie, put tiny twigs, tiny paper snowflakes,
teeny buttons, little strip of material, plastic top-hat & a
small piece of match stick painted orange.  Print this
poem on a nice label and attach to the baggy:

 Snowman Repair Kit
Being outside all day and night,
Can make me look a dreadful sight,
I melt, I break, I lose some parts,
Which tends to break some people's hearts,
So here's a repair kit just for you
To make your snowman look brand new!

Anyone need some snowballs?
These make a nice statement, all by themself, in a glass bowl.
You Need:
several styrofoam balls (different sizes, for different size snowballs)
Candle wax
A thin dowel
clear glitter

1)Melt the wax in a double boiler. (Do not add any coloring to the wax).
2)Take a length of dowel and push it into a styrofoam ball. Dip the styrofoam ball into the wax, covering it completely.
3)Dip the ball several times, until it is well covered by the wax.
4)After the last dip, hold the ball over some newspaper and sprinkle the glitter all over it~~be quick to do this before the wax completely sets.
5)After the ball is completely set, remove the dowel.
6)Make as many as you want, and place in a bowl as a beautiful centerpiece..or an accent on a table.

*Note...these cannot be burned as a candle, as the styrofoam will melt and catch fire.*
Thanks Janet!

I made the cutest wax snowman family.
I used three different sizes of styrofoam balls for the Mom and Dad
and three smaller sizes for the two kids.  The sizes progressed from small to large from the top to the bottom.  I connected the balls with toothpicks then stuck a small dowel in the bottom and used this to dip the whole styrofoam snowman repeatedly in and out of the melted white candle wax.  I did this till I got them to the thickness that I wanted.  Then I laid my hands in glitter then patted the snow family (while it was still warm) so they glistened like snow.
Then I used a 12" x 4" x  1" sheet of styrofoam as the base.  I covered this with artificial snow then placed the snow family, where I wanted them to stand, on the sheet of snow.  Then I lucked out and found a miniature, white, picket fence that fit around the sides and back of the sheet of snow.  I felt so lucky because it was my plan to make the fence from cut
popsicle sticks.  Then I found a miniature wooden sled and I made a tree from a piece of old artificial Christmas garland.
I used large ball top black and orange pins for the eyes, nose and mouth and buttons for the Mom and Dad and small pins for the kids. (I had to use the wire cutters and shorten the pins for the kids.) I made the Dads top hat out of stiff black felt and the Mom's and kids ear muffs out of pom poms and brown craft wire. The arms are twigs and they have fleece and wool scarves tied around their necks.

This turned out so cute and I wish there was a way to get a picture of it to you all right now.  I'll just have to use the camera and wait till I get the film developed.   I just hope it's "before" Christmas.  I'm afraid I won't have developed pictures of all of the crafts I've made till after Christmas and no one will be interested in seeing Christmas crafts by then..... hahaha...on to new Holiday crafts!
Thanks Stacey!

Snow Snuggles (snowmen)
A quick, easy winter project, make a family of 3 to set on the mantle or step.
One tube sock, turned inside out
Yarn or string
3 buttons
a scrap of fleece from sweatshirt or a piece of flannel
2 black sequins or make black French knots for eyes
scrap of fabric for a scarf
beans, rice, or those expensive pellets for filler

Fill the tube sock with filler. Tie the string tightly to create 2 or 3 sections, depending on the size of the snow snuggle and sock. for a baby, you will use only 2 sections. Make a tube with the fleece or flannel, tie
it at the top, stitch or glue it into a cap, putting a pompon on top if desired. glue or stitch the cap to the head, add the eyes and scarf.

Easy Snowman Pin
You will need:
Lightweight cardboard
Brown paper bag
Polyfill
Man's black sock
White acrylic paint
Craft glue
Hot glue
Buttons for the belly
Small beads, embossing powder or black felt pen
Ribbon or strip of fabric
Pin backing
Draw two circles on the cardboard to make your pattern, about 2 inches for bottom and 1 inches for head.
Fold brown bag in half, trace snowman, and cut out two pieces at same time. Paint with two or more coats of white paint. Make a small slit in the center of back bottom (this will be used to stuff a little poly fill in after glue is dry). Glue together around outer edge. I used Aleene's tacky glue. Hot glue two buttons on belly, I used a small red and green one. I put two dots for eyes and five dots for mouth. I used embossing powder for mine but if you have small beads that would look great. The hat is made with a man's black sock. Cut a strip from top about 1 1/2 inches x 3 inches and hot glue around top of head. Tie ribbon or a strip of fabric around hat and neck. Hot glue a pin on back. Add some glitter highlights for a little more sparkle.

Bottled Snowflakes
by Dorothy Morrison

You will need:
1 white pipe cleaner
length of twine
scissors
1 quart jar with a wide mouth
2 cups boiling water
6 tablespoons borax
1 pencil

Cut a white pipe cleaner into 3 equal lengths, twist them together in the center, then arrange the six legs so that they are equidistant from each other. Tie one end of the twine to a leg, and the other end to the middle of a pencil. (For a more ornate flake, tie the twine around the end of each leg in a continuous motion to make a center wheel). Set aside. Pour boiling  water into the jar, then add the borax one tablespoon at a time, stirring to dissolve. (if a little borax settles to the bottom, there's no need to worry, just go on to the next step.) Submerge the pipe cleaner form in the solution and let the pencil rest on top of the jar. Leave the snowflake in the solution overnight. The next morning, you'll find it covered with tiny, sparkling crystals. Remove it from the jar, and hang it from the window to catch the sun.

Tumbling, tumbling to the ground
It's snowing, it's snowing,
Falling, falling all around.
It's snowing, it's snowing,
Twirling, twirling without a sound.
It's snowing, it's snowing,
Tumbling, falling, twirling round!
It's snowing, it's snowing,
Piled higher, higher in a mound

I made myself a snowman
As perfect as can be.

I thought I'd keep it as a pet
And let it sleep with me.

I made it some pajamas
And a pillow for its head.

Then, last night it ran away.
But first, it wet the bed!

A poem for a Snowman potholder
When food is hot,
and makes you frown
Use this snowman
to cool it down.

Polar Ice Cap
Ingredients: blue kool-aid (prepared as directed), ginger ale, vanilla ice cream, clear glass, straw.
Procedure:  Place the kool-aid and ginger ale into the refrigerator until they are cold.
Fill a glass almost halfway with blue kool-aid. Slowly, pour the ginger ale until it almost
reaches the top of the glass. Drop in one scoop of vanilla ice cream. Drop in the straw and enjoy.

Snowball Soup
Ingredients: hot cocoa mix, 2 Hershey kisses, 1 small candy cane, hot water, 1 ice cube, three marshmallows,  mug, spoon
Procedure:  Place two or three heaping spoonfuls of the cocoa mix into a mug.   Drop in the 2 Hershey Kisses and the candy cane.  Pour in hot water and stir.   Drop in an ice cube if the cocoa is too hot to drink.
Last add the marshmallow "snow balls".  Sip Carefully!

Pancake Snowman
Ingredients: pancakes in three different sizes, powder sugar, sifter, M&M's, raisins, or other decorating treats
Procedure:  Give each child three pancakes in different sizes. Have them "build" their snowman.
Place powder sugar in the sifter and let the children sprinkle powder sugar over their snowman.
Make a snowman face from the M&M's and raisins.  If desired, add "button" to the middle pancake.
Enjoy eating your snowman.

Snow Balls
Ingredients:  1 jar of peanut butter, powder milk, honey, coconut
Procedure: Empty the jar of peanut butter into a bowl.  Add 1 to 2 tablespoons of honey (depending on how sweet you want the mixture.)  Add 1/4 cup of dry milk and mix into the peanut butter.  Keep adding small amounts of dry milk until the peanut butter has a "playdough-like" consistency.  Allow the children roll the peanut butter mixture into balls.  Roll each of the balls into the coconut.  The children can also make snowmen by rolling different size balls.

Igloo Ice Blocks
Ingredients:  juice, ice cube tray, swizzle sticks
Procedure: Have the children pour a drink of their choice, such as apple juice, orange juice, or fruit punch, into an ice cube tray. Children should place a small swizzle stick into the cube container so one end of the stick stays immersed in the liquid. Put the juice tray into the freezer. When the liquid is frozen, remove the tray from the freezer. Pop out each cube, and you've got yummy igloo block.

Cocoa

Snowman Gift Box (can)
Spray a large coffee cans with 3 coats of white acrylic spray paint.
Use a sharpie or other permanent black marker to draw on the eyes & mouth.
Highlight with a little white paint for depth and add pupil.
The nose is painted on with orange paint to resemble a carrot.
A small inexpensive knit stocking hat fits really well. You may want to
stuff the hat with a bit of crumpled paper so it would look more full.
Place gift inside can under hat.

PRINGLES CAN SNOWMAN
Place Pringles can upside down (open end on the bottom). Wrap thin batting around the can and glue into place.
Cut a piece of white felt to wrap around the can to cover the batting but make it about 2 inches longer than the can. On the bottom of the can (the open end) you notch the fabric and tuck it inside the can and glue it into place. This gives it a nice smooth look. On the top you can just fold it down and glue into place. Make a hat with whatever color felt you like.  Use a tube of felt sized to fit over the can top. Roll up the bottom end of the hat a couple of times, stuff lightly and glue into place. Tie the top closed. You could tie on a tiny bell or any rustic item. Use black fabric paint for the eyes and mouth and nose. Blush the cheeks. The face is painted on the white felt just below the hat. Tie a fabric scarf around it and glue buttons down the front. Then poke holes in the sides and glue a twig into them. You can glue any tiny item onto the hands if desired. Use snow medium to place snow on the arms and buttons then lightly spray with snow all over.

Yogurt Snowman
What you will need:......... Dannon  drinkable yogurt
Brown pipe cleaner
Felt
3 black half beads
Styrofoam cup
Scrap piece of black fun foam
Black and orange acrylic paint
Ready:.................
Wash your yogurt container out really good.  And peel off the label .
Start at the rim of the container and paint on two black dots for eyes, a  small straight line with orange paint, for the carrot nose. And below the  carrot, 5 small dots going in a half circle for the smile.
Take your brown pipe cleaner and cut it in half. Now on each pipe cleaner,  cut two small pieces for his hands. Glue those two pieces on the long piece  of pipe cleaner and place a clothes pin to keep them together until dry. It
will be a good idea if your place a piece of plastic wrap in between clothes  pin so it wont stick together. When dry, ask an adult to poke a whole on each  side of your snowman, glue your pipe cleaner arms in.
Now take  a scrap piece of black felt and cut a strip  long enough to go   around your snowman. And cut two cuts on each end of your scarf. Wrap around   and glue across each other in the front. Glue on your half beads for his   buttons.
For his hat, take the Styrofoam cup fill it half way with water and place it  in the microwave for one minute. It will shrink down  cut off the part that  is not hard. Paint black. Let dry. Cut a circle of black fun foam bigger than  the cup and glue the cup onto the black foam. Now glue his hat on top of the  snowman. Enjoy !

For those that don't like all the poop packets, I saw this on another forum and thought it was a cute idea.  You put these in a jar and you could decorate it in many different ways, I like the second poem the best. So put your miniature marshmallows in a jar and add the little poem on a nice tag.  Hope no one has sent this before but I don't remember seeing it.
Snowman Seeds

Directions:
Before first frost,
Plant snowman seeds in
Shallow ground.
Water generously.
Seeds are edible.

Or attach the following poem:

To have a merry Christmas
Peek inside this jar here
Filled with seeds for snowmen
To bring you winter cheer
No, you can't really sow them
But "plant' one on your tongue
And if they make you grow a smile
Then their Christmas job is done

Thanks Patti

Whipped Snow
Otherwise known as clean mud....
One roll of toilet paper
I bar of dove soap
warm water
Have the kids tear the paper till it is all done.  Add grated soap, and warm water.   Have the children mix till it has a consistancy of whipped cream.  The more they play with it, the fluffier it gets.  Just lots of fun for a group of kids.   Use spoons, and other kitchen utensils for play.Oh and dove smells not so good when used in this manner.  Scent it with EO or perfume or other.
Thanks Karyn

One Foot Tall Bubble Snowman
This ONE FOOT snowman uses GLASS graduated bubble balls lined with artificial snow. Your trusty HOT glue gun is used for gluing the snowman into shape then the last step is gluing on the eyes, mouth, buttons and other clothing.
Materials:
Three sizes of bubble balls
Trusty glue gun
Elmer's SPRAY adhesive or WHITE glue
Two quart bags of artificial snow
A pre-made hat that will fit the smallest bubble ball
Black buttons for eyes
Miniature carrots
Mini pons (for the mouth)
Felt scraps
Grapevine bow
Optional Candle ring and greens to dress the base
First, in a well vented room, use Elmer's spray adhesive and spray the inside of the bubble balls and then fill with the artificial snow. Tamping the snow will leave a thin white layer stuck to the inside of the bubble ball.
Being careful to position the balls - spread the rim of the LARGEST ball with hot glue and position the middle ball on top. Do the same with the smallest ball. If you prefer to use the white glue instead of the hot glue gun - you should let it set overnight to dry.
Glue on the hat and the eyes. Snip of the green on the carrot and glue onto place as the nose.
For the smile put the glue on the glass first then place the pons on the glue.
For the scarf cut the scrap of felt (or cloth) and glue into place.
Decorate the scarf with the premade grapevine bow or other decorations. Use small twigs under the scarf at the sides of the snowman for arms.
Set the snowman in the candle ring and surround the base with greens.
Thanks Lynn

Whipped Snow
2 cups warm water
1 cup pure laundry soap or flakes
Electric mixer
Put water and soap in large bowl and beat with mixer until very fluffy. Add  food coloring if desired. This can be molded into shapes and left to dry. Idea: Shape into 3 different sized balls. When dry, glue together to make a  snowman.

Springtime Snowman Materials needed:

Clear shrink plastic sheet, 4-1/8 x 5-3/8 inches -

3/4-inch Styrofoam ball -

19mm black plastic top hat -

3/8-inch read plaid ribbon,

5 inches -Red felt, 1 x 1-1/2 inches

4mm black beads, eight White posterboard for sign, 3/8 x 2 inches - Tiny yellow feather - Thin twigs, 1-1/2 inch lengths, two -Orange acrylic paint -Black fine-line permanent marker - White craft glue Use transparent tape to attach edges of the shrink plastic to a square of cardboard for support. Trim feather to 1/2 x 1-1/4 inches. For each sign handle, cut pointed ends from a toothpick, leaving a 1-3/4 inch length. Use a serrated knife to cut a 1/4-inch slice from one side of the foam ball for the bottom. For nose, dip one end of a toothpick into orange paint. Let dry. Cut a 1/2-inch length from the end. Using the pattern, cut out two mittens. Referring to the picture, continue with making the snowman: Squeeze an irregular shaped puddle of glue onto the plastic sheet. Set aside. Using the marker, write 'Welcome Spring?' onto the posterboard for the sign. Glue the feather to the hat. Determine eye placement and use the sign handle toothpick to make two small holes in the foam ball. Squeeze a small amount of glue into the holes and insert beads. Repeat to glue three beads for the mouth and the cut end of the orange toothpick for the nose. Use glue gun to attach the sign to the toothpick sign handle. Wrap and glue the right hand mitten around the base of the sign handle. Fringe the ends of the ribbon for the scarf. Place into the puddled flue: foam ball head; twig arms; left-hand mitten with thumb pointing toward center; ribbon scarf around head; and three beads (buttons) in front of the head. Glue the hat on top of the head. Place the sign near the right twig arm. While holding the sign upright, attach one end of an 8-inch length of transparent tape to the plastic sheet, up and over sign, and attach the other end to the opposite side of the plastic sheet to support the sign as the glue dries. (The glue will dry in approximately 48 hours.) When glue is dry, remove the plastic sheet from the cardboard square. Then cut the plastic sheet along the glue line to remove the excess.
