1/8 sheet Cardstock weight Paper
Ribbon, Yarn or Raffia  (for bow to tie label on jar)
Clear container with lid, such as a small glass canning jar

Instructions:
Empty the packet of gelatin into a large mixing bowl. Set aside.

SUPER EASY OATMEAL SOAP
1 cup grated castille soap (a 3-oz bar of mild soap like dove or ivory)
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons oatmeal
Instructions:
Place the grated soap in a double boiler. Pour the water over the soap and stir over medium heat to dissolve all of the saop in the water. When the soap and water are well-combined, add the oatmeal. Pour it into a greased mold (this is when I squish it into balls instead). the mold can be greased
with petroleum jelly or vegetabel shortening. Let cool completely and then unmold by turning over and tapping th emold on a table. Let dry for a few days.
Tip: When I do use molds, I use the Wilton candy type molds. All of the soap
making scents and stuff can be purchased in my local Walmart crafts section.
Might want to check yours.
You can add colors, scents, dried flowers, whatever, to your soaps.

A hot bath is best
It truly will help keep you sane
( Attach bath oils, bubbles, scents, poof, soaps,etc...)

This is a safe one since you don't have to mess with lye.
Ingredients:
1/2 Cup Oatmeal
1/2 Cup Small Soap Pieces
1 1/2 Tablespoons Cooking Oil
1 Tablespoon Water
Directions:
Place soap slivers in a plastic bag, and pound them into little chunks.
Place the chunks in a blender, add oatmeal, and pulse until mixture has a
grainy consistency. Pour into a bowl and remove any oversized chunks of
soap - add the oil and water and mix with your hands. Form into a firm ball
and let set until hard -- about 2 hours.
To make "soap-on-a-rope," make a 1 1/2 inches long indentation in the ball
immediately after it's formed. Tie the ends together of a 12 inch length of
twine. Press the knotted end into the indentation. Mold soap firmly over
twine. Let set until hard.
Alternative: for pumice-like soap use cornmeal in place of the oatmeal.
Important note: Adult supervision and participation is required for this activity.

Here's my question: What could I use to mold the soaps with items I
might have on hand, and not have to go out and spend a small fortune on molds  etc ??
Answers-A soup can, pint sized milk carton cut smaller, cups.
-I think they would also be cute for a bathroom with soaps made in those little plastic christmas candy molds.
-don't know if this would work--but an idea. you could pour your soap into 2 glass, Pyrex type, custard cups and when they get hard take them out, put your cord for hanging in the middle--the top/flat sides of the soaps, "glue the flat sides together with some more melted soap, and you should have at least a almost round or oval shape.  did that make any sense?
-tuna can, International Coffee's tin, Spam  can.  The other day on Carol Duval a lady used cookie cutters.  You pour a  small amount of the soap on your work surface, allow it to harden slightly,
place the cutter on the soup, pour in desired soap and once set she just  gently separated the bar of soap from the base soap and removed from  mold.  She explained that this kept the soap from the mold seeping out from  the bottom.   Looked perfect and easy (now if it really works that nifty I
can't say).
-you can use ANYTHING for a soap mold. Tin cans, jello molds, small plastic  pots. Here are two of my favorites: take a loofa and put it in a Pringle's  can, then melt the glycerin and pour it in the can, covering the loofa. Let  set. Slide out, and cut into 1 inch slabs.    2). I have some plastic cups,
shaped like Micky Mouse's head, that had pudding in them. I pour about 1 inch  of melted soap in, and let set. Pop out. The kids love that one!
-take a loofa and put it in a Pringle's can, ...
-I found another soap idea. Pour the melted soap into a disposable cake pan,    about 1 inch thick (if you want thicker soap, pour more). then use cookie   cutters to cut out shapes, after the soap sets. Have fun!
-cookie cutters, juice cans, the package that bakery muffins come in, small reinforced boxes lined with plastic wrap....

PLUM  PUDDING SOAP
8 ounces  unscented white soap (Ivory) -- grated
  4 ounces  milk
  2  teaspoons  Plum fragrance oil
  1/4 teaspoon  Cinnamon fragrance oil
  1   teaspoon  ground nutmeg
      Brown food coloring
      Gold mica dust

In the top of a double boiler, heat milk, along with the fragrance oils.  Grind the soap as fine as possible in a food processor (not absolutely  necessary, but makes it easier). Put the ground soap in a bowl and add the  nutmeg, food coloring and mica dust. Stir to distribute the color evenly.
When milk and oils are hot, add the soap and, stirring occasionally, allow  the soap to soften to a creamy mass (the water in the bottom of the double  boiler should be hot, but not boiling). It may take as much as a half hour  (and since you don't have to watch it like a hawk, you can do other things  while it's softening). After the soap is fully melted, press into a small  bundt pan (or two, depending on the size). Pop in freezer. When frozen,  remove from pan and allow to thaw completely.   Present on a plate, sliced.

6  ounces  unscented white soap (such as Ivory) -- grated
1/4 teaspoon  Egg Nog fragrance oil

Bring water to a boil and add soap and reduce heat. Mash and stir soap until
water disappears and mixture becomes a sticky mass (about 5 minutes). Remove
from heat. Stir in fragrance oil and glitter until well blended. Reserve a
little glitter for later. When soap is cool enough to handle, divide in half
and form into balls with your hands. Sprinkle reserved glitter on the surface
of the balls and continue to shape into snowball-like soaps. Allow to air-dry
at least 12 hours. Wrap individually in cellophane and tie with ribbon and a bow.

Scented Stones
You will need one ceramic or glass bowl,
1/2 cup flour (do not use self-rising flour)
1/4 cup salt,
1/2 tablespoon alum (available in drug stores),
1 tablespoon essential or fragrance oil,
2/3 cup boiling water and
food coloring (optional).

In ceramic or glass bowl, thoroughly mix dry ingredients
Add essential oil and boiling water
NOTE:  scent will be strong, but will fade slightly when pastilles dry.
For colored dough, blend in food coloring one drop at a time until desired shade is achieved
Blend ingredients to form a ball
Working with a small amount at a time, roll dough between palms of hands to form small balls.
Note:  cover unused dough to keep it from drying out
Allow pastilles to dry.
Source: Leisure Arts Magazine
I think it would be neat to stamp them with a clean rubber stamp or use
a playdough or cookie mold for added interest.

Scented Rocks
1/2 Cup plain flour
1/2 Cup salt
1/4 teaspoon essential oil  (I used potpourri oil, the type that comes in
tiny bottles to put drops on a lightbulb ring, or to freshen potpourri)
2/3 Cup boiling water
food coloring, if desired

1.  In bowl, mix dry ingredients well.
2.  Add essential oil, and boiling water to dry ingredients.
(Scent will be strong, but will fade slightly when dry.)
3.  For color stones, blend in food coloring, one drop at a time until desired shade is reached.
4.  Knead like bread dough to blend ingredients.  Form balls, or press into
candy molds or soap molds.  I used Wilton candy molds.  I had to kind of
pry them out, but they are so pliable I could just reshape the edge with my finger to smooth it.
5.  Allow stones to dry.  (This takes longer than you think.  It took mine
about 4 days and they were in thin rose shapes.  Balls would probably take longer.)

These can be used to put in a nice bowl and into the bathroom or you can
put in drawers for a light scented fragrance, closets, etc.
Thanks Barb

Dead Sea Salt
The chemical composition of the dead sea
salt is different than plain sea salt.
The chemical composition of dead sea salt is different than plain sea salt.
First, the waters of the Dead Sea are unique compared to other seas in that
the salt concentration is 27% compared to 3% in other seas.
Second, plain sea salt and solar salts are 80% sodium chloride (common table salt).
The Dead Sea salt contains a much smaller proportion of the sodium
chloride and the bulk of the salt is made up of magnesium, potassium and bromides.
They've done clinical studies in Israel on people suffering from arthritis
and tendonitis and found that using a 2% bath solution 3x a week relieved much of
the pain associated with these conditions as well as improving mobility.
They've treated psoriasis with it as well and found the patients after 4
weeks of these treatments had no more itching.
Patients treated with regular sea salt showed no such improvements.
Your choice will depend on the purpose for your bath salts.  If you're looking
for regular sea salt, the cheapest place to look is in your grocery store.
Many stores also sell a brand of salt called "Solar Salt" in the water softener
aisle.  I think it's about $5 for a 25 lb. bag.  I called the manufacturing
company on the bag and was told it was plain old chunk sea salt.  If you're
looking for a finer grained salt, then buy a big bag of table salt.  Places
like Sam's Club sells them in 25 lb. quantities.

MECHANIC'S HAND CLEANER
1 or 2 bars any soap
1 C. borax
1 to 2 tsp. pure turpentine
1 tsp. sweet orange essential oil
1 C. ground soap (from above bars)
Grind the bar(s) of soap. With very clean hands, work the turpentine

to open with greasy hands.

FRUITY BATH SALTS
3 qt. Epsom salt

of drink mix, and mix 1 envelope of Kool-Aid to 1 quart
Epsom salt in each of three bowls. Alternate colored layers in a nice container.
Otherwise use the same flavor Kool-Aid and mix into the Epsom salt. Pour into a nice container.
Either seal with a cork or pour a layer of warm (not hot) paraffin on top of each. Add a raffia bow for a nice gift.

MAKE YOUR OWN MOUTHWASH

Want an economical mouthwash, or one you can whip up if you
run out? Try this......
Combine:
--1 teaspoon baking soda
--1 teaspoon salt
--1 quart of water
Stir or shake until dissolved in a clean container. The
mixture will last up to a month. Give it a minty, fresh zip
by adding a few drops of peppermint (to taste). Works great

Simple Bath Gel
1 cup water
1 tablespoon unsented glycerine soap
15 drops of frangrance or essential oil
Boil the water and let the glycerine soap melt in it.  Remove from heat and
add essentail oil.  It thickens as it cools, so don't be discouraged if it looks watery at first.

Scented Bath Oil
Add a few drops of essential oils to 1 cup of mineral oil.  Just pour a
small amount into your bath water and voila, instant scented bath.  Try
adding a few drops of food colouring for a wonderful effect with a candle as well.

Basic Bubble Bath
5 drops essential oil. (your choice of scent).
1 quart of water
1 bar castille soap (grated or flaked)
1 1/2 ounces glycerine

Mix all ingredients together.  Store in a container and pour in running water.

Fragrant Bath Salts
1 cup instant nonfat dry milk
1 cup baking soda
2 tablespoons of cornstarch
1 tablespoon cream of tartar
1 tablespoon cinnamon

Combine all and store in a glass container.  (a pretty one)
Add to bath water for a refreshing bath.
Note:  If you wish to use essential oil instead, mix it first with the salt
and then combine other ingredients.  If you want to make a chocolate bath
for the kids, just add 2 tablespoons of coco.

Bath Bombs
2 parts baking soda
1 part citric acid
1 part corn starch

Combine ingredients using a food processor if possible, add food colouring,
a drop by drop of essential oil.  The mixture will be crumbly, so pack
tightly in a mold or cookie cutter of choice, or shape into balls.  Let dry
and then wrap however you like.

Hope this works for you.  Make your items and arrange them into a nice
basket with cute items for Easter, or Mother's Day, and you have a great
gift.  Mine were a hit last Easter.

Soap -making recipes

SOAP BALLS
Mild bar of soap (preferably Ivory)
Warm water
*Cookie cutters

Grate one cup of soap off the bar.  Pour in medium sized mixing bowel.Start with 1/2 cup of warm water.  Pour into the grated soap and knead to mix.  Add more warm water, a little at a time, and continue to knead until all soap mixes in and it is the consistency of thick dough.

If you want to make colored bars of soap, mix food coloring in with the water.

Once your water and soap is well blended, press mixture into cookie cutters.  Set the cookie cutter on its side so the soap dries on both sides, or flip it often.  Put in a dry place to dry for about 24 hours.
Gently pop your soap out of the cookie cutter.

*Instead of using cookie cutters,  you can make miniature bars of homemade soap by pressing your mixtures into ice cube trays or roll them into balls.
Thanks Phyllis

Bubbling Bath Salts

Ingredients
1 Cup each of:
Epsom Salt
Coarse Sea salt or rock salt
Fine Sea salt
Powdered milk
Mr. Bubbles or similar dry bubble bath

Mix dry ingredients in a bowl and set aside.

Add:
2 to 4 tbsp of glycerin (to texture preference)
4 to 6 drops of essential oils or fragrance oils of your choice.
Mix well. Add 3 to 4 drops of food coloring or a package of unscented
Koolaid. This is for color but it also adds a fruity scent to the
overall scent of your salts. I like to mix and match color schemes
and have come up with wonderful colors and sometimes very odd color!
I have used koolaid and food coloring together.
Fill a selected container. Use one cup with bath

Hair Conditioner
½ cup olive oil
½ cup vegetable oil
½ cup honey
Combine ingredients in a small saucepan and heat until just
boiling. Remove immediately from heat and let cool. Pour into a plastic
spray bottle and spray on the ends of hair while wet. Wrap a warm, wet
towel around hair and leave for one hour. Shampoo the mixture out of
your hair, rinse and dry as usual. Mixture should be stored in a coolplace.

Truly Homemade Shampoo

Shampoo is just liquid soap, usually made with
vegetable oils rather than animal fat, and with glycerine and alcohol
added during the soapmaking process. The basic ingredients for regular
soap are lye (potash leached from ashes), fat (animal tallow) or oil,
and water.  (Depending on how basic you want to get, you could even make
your own lye and render your own fat, but that's very time
consuming.)Try the following recipe for a gentle homemade shampoo:
2 lb. 10 oz. olive oil
1 lb. 7 ox. of solid-type vegetable shortening
1 lb. coconut oil
10 ¼ oz. lye
2 pt. water
1 ½ oz. glycerine
½ oz. alcohol
1 ½ oz castor oil
NOTE: You will need a candy thermometer to test temperatures. Mix oils
together. Place in a container and set the container in a large pan. Mix
the lye solution - pour the lye into an enamel coated container of 2
pints of cold water and stir steadily. When cooled, pour lye solution
into a glass container and set in another large pan. Bring both to
between 95° and 98° F - this will mean pouring either cold or hot water
into the pans, depending on the original temperature of the ingredients.
Add the lye solution to the oils, pouring in a steady stream while
continuing to stir. The mixture will turn opaque and brownish, then will
lighten. It's ready when its surface can support a drop of mixture for a
moment. The consistency should be like sour cream.Stir in 1 ½ oz.
glycerine ½ oz. alcohol and 1 ½ oz castor oil.  Add any colorants,
scents you desire. Now, you can pour the mixture into molds and allow to
harden, then make the shampoo as you need it by shaving off flakes and
boiling in water until they dissolve - about 1 pound of shavings per
gallon of water. Or, you can add more water to mixture, boil, and allow
to cool, then place in bottles for use.
